Lewisham Introduces Food Waste Collections
One way to boost recycling rates is to introduce food waste collections, this is what Lewisham have done, with this they have changed from weekly collections to fortnightly collections with the aim to increase the borough recycling rates to 24.8%. This change has been issued due to estimations show that almost 39% of rubbish put into the general waste bin is food waste.

The residents of Sutton are going to be saying goodbye to their wheelie bins, the Sutton Council have voted to begin working with Veoila to try and raise recycling rates in the area. With this move the council are hoping to increase the recycling to over 40% within 12 months, and will save the council almost £11 million.

Many of the councils are or already have implemented a garden waste collection charge, and one of the newest to introduce this is the Highland Council. Many councils have had to charge to help with the reduced budget cuts for collection of waste, the residents are in opposition to this and have already submitted a petition saying that it would increase flytipping.
